Between its delayed Xbox version, a criticized physical version, lack of communication about the PS5 version, and the guidelines sent to content creators that caused an outcry, Black Myth Wukong didn’t seem to be getting off on the right foot. However, Game Science’s game proved that it’s not a loser, thanks to the amazing numbers it’s generating on Steam.

Black Myth Wukong was a highly anticipated game, despite all the buzz about it. It was also the first Chinese game of this scale, targeting consoles and PC alone (unlike the HoYoverse games, which were also intended for a mobile audience). So it was subject to careful inspection, especially in its native country. And the first figures on Steam prove it.

If we take a look at the title’s performance (via SteamDB), we can see that Black Myth Wukong records the highest peak of players connected simultaneously for a single-player game.

It currently stands at over 1.44 million players logged in at the time of writing, but this figure is rising by the minute. In this rank, it takes fourth place, just behind games such as Palworld, PUBG, and Counter-Strike 2. Above all, it outranks Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring by a significant margin (400,000 more people), which until now have been the kings of single-player games.

Yet the title has only been available for a few hours. Analyst Daniel Ahmad gives a little more context to these figures, pointing out that the game is receiving major exposure in China, even appearing on national news channels. So it will be interesting to see what share the Chinese market has in these early results.

As a reminder, Black Myth Wukong is available on PC and PS5, with an Xbox Series version to be released later.
