Black Myth: Wukong Will Be Delayed on Xbox and Opens Its Pre-orders with a Collector’s Edition without a Disc

Black Myth Wukong

Since it’s coming out in mid-summer, it’s impossible for Black Myth: Wukong to miss one final opportunity to make its presence clear in front of a large audience. Game Science’s game was on the program at Summer Game Fest to present itself once again via a brief CGI trailer, which was primarily intended to launch pre-orders for its different editions.

This charming trailer is a real eye-catcher, even if it doesn’t contain any gameplay footage. Its sole purpose is to remind us that the game will be released on August 20, and that it’s time to open pre-orders. Well, August 20, not for everyone.

While the release is still scheduled for that date on PC and PlayStation 5, the Xbox version has been pushed back to an unknown date. Game Science now reports that this version has fallen behind schedule and does not meet the quality standards set by the team, which is why it will not be released on time.

The game’s different editions all have one thing in common: they will not contain a disc, but a download code. The studio states that Black Myth: Wukong is its first game, and that it has no experience of the entire production chain required to print discs and distribute them. However, this situation is not hopeless, as the team says it is working on this problem to be able to supply discs for these editions one day.

Fair enough, but with two collector’s editions available at almost excessive prices, the argument is hard to swallow. In the Deluxe Edition, sold for $169, you’ll find :

  • Steel Case
  • Warranty Certificate
  • Thunderstone Ring
  • Wind Chime Necklace
  • Gold Sun Crow Pin
  • Stamps and Postcard
  • Scroll
  • Real-size hero’s crown

A collector’s edition is also planned for $399. Here you’ll find the same contents as in the Deluxe Edition, except that the crown will be replaced by a 40 cm protagonist figurine.

It remains to be seen whether these editions will arrive on time. The codes will be delivered in time to enjoy the game, but the physical packaging may be delayed, according to the studio. In short, we sense the inexperience of a team that hasn’t sufficiently prepared the marketing aspect for the game, but more importantly, we hope that the game experience itself will be refined.
