Amazon’s God of War TV Series Is Starting from Scratch after Losing Producers and Showrunner

by Gamingstry

PlayStation TV adaptation projects are slowing down. Netflix’s Horizon series is experiencing its share of problems due to its problematic showrunner, and Amazon’s planned God of War series isn’t doing any better. We thought it was off to a good start, since it had found a regular Amazon showrunner, namely Rafe Judkins, who runs the Wheel of Time series on Prime Video. However, Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus reportedly left the show, forcing Sony and Amazon to start from scratch.

Deadline was the first to learn of these significant departures. It is reported that the trio had already completed several scripts for the episodes of this first season, but all this work is apparently in the garbage can. Sony and Amazon are now said to be looking for a brand new team of writers to take the series in a new direction.

However, the website’s sources report that the scripts of the departing trio were convincing and even seduced Sony and Amazon. So it’s hard to know what really happened here and why this sudden change of direction was required. We assume that not everyone had a falling out, given that Jenkins has his other series at Amazon and has to get along with Sony since he has signed a deal with the company on other projects.

All this means that the series is now starting from scratch, and is not expected to be released anytime soon. It seems that the success of an adaptation like The Last of Us is not so easy to reproduce.
