We’re still wondering what prompted Sony and Amazon to discard Rafe Judkins’ work on the God of War series when both companies apparently liked what had been done, but they’ve wasted no time in finding a replacement. Unlike the Horizon series, which seems to have lost its way, Sony wants to move quickly with this adaptation without recruiting just anyone, since the series may have gained something in the process.
A Big Name Takes Over
Without underrating Rafe Judkins’ resume and skills as the man responsible for adapting The Wheel of Time, his replacement isn’t just anyone. Deadline has learned exclusively that Ronald D. Moore will now be in charge of the God of War series scheduled for Prime Video.
It’s a name that may come as a surprise at first, since Moore is best known for his work on science-fiction themes. He was responsible (in part) for Battlestar Galactica, after working on Star Trek series such as The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager. He also helped create the Outlander series (which took him away from SF for a while), before producing Apple’s For All Mankind series. An impressive background, put to good use in this God of War series, which follows on from a multi-year deal between Moore and Sony signed last July.
Anyway, the arrival of this showrunner shows that Sony has big ambitions for this adaptation, and now let’s hope that Moore can finalize the project properly.
