Black Myth Wukong sets the record straight once again, proving that the Chinese console market can no longer be ignored. A few days after its launch, 10 million copies were sold, making Game Science’s game one of the fastest-selling titles of its genre. Today, we thought that the game would naturally slow its progress in the charts, but that’s not the case: Bloomberg reports a new milestone that will make heads spin.
Competing for the Title of the Best Selling Game of the Year?
10 million sales in just a few days was already a major success. But 18 million in two weeks is not far from the mark. According to Bloomberg, Black Myth Wukong has sold 18 million copies so far, which, according to analyst Daniel Ahmad, is worth $700 million. Given that the title cost around $70 million to produce, the return on investment is clearly huge. If sales continue at a good pace, targeting 30 million copies sold doesn’t seem to be a fantasy.
And to help the game get there, Game Science is preparing an expansion. This means we should be hearing more about the game in the next few months, while we anticipate an upcoming sequel.
Such an achievement will certainly further boost the interest of studios and publishers in China. PlayStation has already established a strong presence there with its PlayStation Hero Project initiative, and we can only assume that it will double its attention following the performance of Black Myth Wukong, which generated a great deal of PS5 sales in the country.
