All hero-shooter fans and anyone who loves the characters from the House of Ideas met up this weekend to see what Marvel Rivals had up its sleeve. The first few hours of the NetEase game’s launch showed that the title had all the ingredients to be a real success, and this was confirmed in the following days with a new record for peak connections on Steam, and a symbolic milestone exceeded.
A Solid Foundation to Build On
Being free-to-play is a great help in achieving impressive visitor numbers, right from launch. Marvel Rivals is proof of this, with over 10 million downloads in just 72 hours.
On Steam, we can see that its previous record for peak concurrent players has been far surpassed, as it now stands at over 480,000 instead of the previous 444,000. This places it among the top 20 Steam games in the category of games with the highest number of peak concurrent players.
As a comparison, Overwatch 2 exceeded 25 million downloads in just ten days. Marvel Rivals still has a long way to go, but NetEase’s game needs to establish itself over time. Season 0 will last until the beginning of January, before the post-launch follow-up kicks in with Season 1. And that’s when we’ll have to see if the game manages to maintain the large community it has just created.
