Naughty Dog’s future was unclear when it came to the identity of its next project. The Game Awards 2024 ceremony gave us the answer: it’s off to space for a brand-new IP entitled Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. We were even treated to a cinematic trailer of more than decent length for an announcement, setting the mood for what may well be PlayStation’s next flagship.
The Last of Us Aftermath Finally Confirmed
There’s no denying the pleasure of seeing the Naughty Dog name attached to something other than The Last of Us license, if only for the sake of the teams and the opportunity to take their minds off things. And for this announcement trailer, we’re treated to some in-game cinematics, and it’s fair to say that we recognize the studio’s aesthetic right away, particularly in terms of character modeling.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet takes us several millennia into the future, in the shoes of Jordan A. Mun, a bounty hunter in search of a target who ends up stranded on the planet Sempiria. This isolated planet is known for its hostile environments, and no one has been able to leave the planet in 600 years.
A futuristic, slightly retro aesthetic occasionally shines through, featuring a surprising display of brand sponsorship. Porsche on the ship, Adidas on the feet and, of course, Sony on the disk drive – Naughty Dog hadn’t got us used to this before. At least, it adds a touch of authenticity to the overall picture.
As for the rest, we know that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet has been in development since 2020, and that Neil Druckmann is still at the helm. In terms of what the game will offer, it’s easy to imagine its action dimension, with Jordan pouncing on an enemy with her laser sword, but everything else is yet to be discovered for this PlayStation Studios exclusive.
