The news came just as we were writing about PS5 sell-outs in China, a good sign of the success of Black Myth: Wukong. The Action-RPG is doing very well indeed, with record sales in just three days.
Black Myth: Wukong Rivals Pokémon
Black Myth: Wukong sold 10 million copies worldwide in just three days on PC and PS5. In addition to this imposing figure, it also outsold Elden Ring and Hogwarts Legacy for the same period. Quite an achievement for the first game from the Chinese studio Game Science.
As a reminder, the title does not offer physical versions and will be released later on Xbox Series X|S. Although we don’t have detailed sales data, it’s most likely that the vast majority of sales took place in China, where the Action-RPG has become a national phenomenon thanks to a major marketing campaign and a little Streisand effect following the pre-launch controversies.
If that’s not enough to convince you that this is a great achievement, you should know that it’s doing as well as Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, which also sold 10 million copies in three days, although in their case they were console exclusives.
3 Million Concurrent Players on PC and PS5
The studio also reported that the game recorded 3 million concurrent players on PC and PS5. Black Myth: Wukong has already broken a record on Steam, becoming the most-played single-player game in the platform’s history, with 2.4 million concurrent players. This means that there were between 600 and 700 thousand concurrent players on PS5.
Black Myth Wukong is available on PC and PlayStation 5. An Xbox Series version will be released at a later date.
