When Phil Spencer announced the arrival of StarCraft Remastered and StarCraft 2 on Xbox Game Pass, we wondered if this was just the beginning of the license’s revival. Blizzard hasn’t announced anything else for the series, and fans still carry the memory of a StarCraft Ghost that never saw the light of day. So there’s little hope, but Jason Schreier from Bloomberg has just reignited the flame.
Ghost, Are You There?
The journalist is about to release a new book called Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment, in which he focuses on the publisher’s history while revealing behind-the-scenes information that was previously unknown. He also takes advantage of the opportunity to give a few hints gathered during his investigations, including one about a new StarCraft game.
During his interview with IGN to promote his book, Schreier mentions that Blizzard is working on a StarCraft shooter that would be directed by Dan Hay, a former producer of Ubisoft’s Far Cry series who joined Blizzard in 2022. While the spirit of StarCraft Ghost is still present, the journalist warns that this shooter is not beyond cancellation either:
” If it’s not canceled! This is Blizzard after all. Their history with StarCraft shooters is not good. Yes, that is a project that as far as I know is in development, or at least as of the time that I wrote this book was in development. They are working on a StarCraft shooter, StarCraft is not dead at Blizzard. “
Enough to put a smile on the faces of the license’s fans, assuming that this project will eventually see the light of day.
