Despite all the years separating the release of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 from the first installment, fans were right on target. Focus and Saber’s game has lived up to its expectations, and this has been expressed in sales, which appear to be massive, making it the most successful Warhammer game ever launched. Naturally, this success already gives the studio ideas, and they’d like to see the adventure continue.

The idea of a Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 may be a little hasty, but it’s already been discussed at Saber Interactive. This was stated by Tim Willits, the studio’s chief creative officer, to IGN. He said that the success of the second episode has made it easier to plan for the saga’s future, as the studio is keen to stay within this universe and already has some ideas for the future:

Our game director Dmitry Grigorenko, he has proposed some story ideas that could either be DLC or a sequel,” Willits said. “We’re literally just catching our breath. This is two weeks out. We just need to get the dust to settle. But I can confidently say that we will not disappoint our Warhammer fans in the future. It’s too big of a success! I know that’s an obvious thing to say, but hopefully we’ll be working on Space Marine content for a long time.”

For Space Marine 3, Willits said, Saber would need to work with publisher Focus as well as Games Workshop once again. “We just have to figure it out. I would love to do it, yes,” he continued. “Yes, yes, yes! There’s so many different factions… there are other chapters, too, that are interesting…”

IGN post-launch interview

Excitement is certainly on the rise after this fanfare launch, which will probably make it possible to think about a sequel without waiting for more than a decade. Or a spin-off? The mention of other factions is not accidental, and they could also play the role of protagonists in other productions. In any case, expect to see more Warhammer 40,000 from Saber.
