Hogwarts Legacy 2 Reveals Links with Future HBO Harry Potter Series

by Gamingstry

It’s no longer a secret: Warner Bros is working on a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy in partnership with studio Avalanche Software. Following the success of the first episode, which topped the charts in 2023 as the best-selling game of the year, the publisher was quick to approve a sequel instead of wasting time on a DLC. This second episode is now one of the group’s most important projects, for Warner Bros as a whole and not just for Warner Bros Games, so much so that it will influence the Wizarding World universe globally.

We already knew that Warner Bros had given the green light to a sequel for Hogwarts Legacy, making the project one of the group’s top priorities. Today, Variety confirms this, stating that the game has sold 30 million copies (8 million more than last January), making it a real hit, if not a small phenomenon.

So, this sequel has every chance of being a success, and Warner Bros is determined to maximize the game’s potential and boost the Wizarding World as a whole. David Haddad, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s President, tells Variety that Hogwarts Legacy 2 will have connections with the new Harry Potter TV series currently being prepared by HBO.

This means that both adaptations will have certain elements in common, although it’s not clear what exactly. The most obvious assumption is that the series will be based on the look of Hogwarts School as portrayed in the game, to ensure visual unity even though the two stories take place in different eras. Variety also reports that, as with the production of the first game, J.K. Rowling has been excluded from all projects due to her transphobic statements.

Last we heard, a Director’s Cut edition of Hogwarts Legacy was also in the pipeline, but this has yet to be confirmed.
