Ubisoft Massive is on a path of redemption with Star Wars Outlaws. The studio needs to win back the public’s interest, and this will involve patches to correct the game’s biggest problems, while making it accessible on more platforms, such as Steam. This rehabilitation could take a long time, and that is why the game’s creative director is stepping down today.
A New Captain to Ensure Post-release Content
Changing the creative director after the game’s release may seem strange to some, but it shows that Ubisoft Massive isn’t done with Star Wars Outlaws yet. Julian Gerighty will be leaving the company, and Drew Rechner will be taking his place. A studio veteran, he previously worked on The Division and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Above all, this will enable Gerighty to return to The Division 3, the studio’s next big project.
This change is also intended to represent a new era for Star Wars Outlaws, with patches designed to breathe new life into the game. In his first message as head of the team in charge of this title, Rechner specifies that he is working on three very specific points:
” The first key area of improvement to the game is combat where we see a real opportunity to add more depth and excitement to the experience, further rewarding your tactics and precision. Our second key area is stealth which is not only about improving the readability and consistency of enemy detection, but also providing choice in how you want to approach each encounter. Finally, our third key area of focus is centered around the character controls, which means improving the reliability of cover, increasing the responsiveness of climbing and crouching, and generally improving the consistency of the controls overall. “
All this is promised to be at the heart of the game’s 1.4 patch, which will be released at the same time as the Steam version and Wild Card DLC on November 21. The new director also promises to go into more detail on the upcoming improvements in future days.
